HC Deb 07 June 1904 vol 135 cc921-2
DR. AMBROSE (Mayo, W.)

To ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland whether he is aware that the Fitzgerald Estate, situate at Turlough, Castlebar, county Mayo, is about to be sold; that negotiations are taking place for the sale of the untenanted lands to graziers; and whether, in view of the fact that there are several small farmers in the neighbourhood of those grazing lands, he will see that those lands are purchased with a view to the enlargement of the holdings of those farmers.

(Answered by Mr. Wyndham.) Negotiations are pending, I understand, for the sate of this estate; but, so far, no originating application in respect of sale has been lodged with the Estates Commissioners. Should such an applica- tion be made, the Commissioners will have due regard to all the circumstances of the estate before sanctioning advances.
