HC Deb 01 June 1904 vol 135 c498
MR. HEYWOOD JOHNSTONE (Sussex, Horsham)

To ask the First Lord of the Treasury if he will afford facilities for the resumption of the debate of I8th May on Free Food adjourned on the Motion of the Leader of the Opposition.

(Answered by Mr. A. J. Balfour.) As my hon. friend is aware from the speech I made in debate it does not appear to me expedient that, in addition to the days already occupied by discussions on the fiscal question, more time should be expended in the course of the present session in debating a matter which is not to be dealt with by this Parliament. Under the circumstances it would not seem wise to allot days, urgently required for other business, to continuing the debate of 18th May.
