Baronet the Member for Preston I beg to ask the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he expects to be able to make any announcement before the close of the session as to any steps which it may be possible to take to encourage the growth of cotton in West Africa or in South Africa.
§ MR. LYTTELTONThe policy outlined in my speech on the 27th of April is being actively pursued. As there is little to add to what was then stated, I 1044 do not think that it will be necessary that I should make a further announcement on the subject this session.
