MACVEAGHI beg to ask Mr. Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will state how many gallons of patent spirits were distilled in the Highlands of Scotland during the last financial year; and if he will state whether any of the Highland whisky made up in bond under Government supervision contains a considerable percentage of patent spirits.
§ MR. AUSTEN CHAMBERLAINThere is only one patent-still distillery in the Highlands of Scotland; but the Board of Inland Revenue have no title to disclose the particulars of its trade. The Board have no official record which would enable them to supply the information asked for in the second clause of the Question.
