HC Deb 29 February 1904 vol 130 c1228
MR. CHARLES DEVLIN

I beg to ask the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether, in view of the fact that the Canadian Government impose a tax of $500 per head in the matter of Chinese immigration into Canada, he can state if he has any official information showing the effect of this restriction upon Chinese immigration into Canada.

* MR. LYTTELTON

The capitation tax of $500 was only imposed last year, and I have no information as to its effect on immigration.
