HC Deb 29 February 1904 vol 130 c1228
MR. CHARLES DEVLIN

I beg to ask the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he is aware that agitation existed in the Province of British Columbia, Dominion of Canada, against Chinese and Japanese immigration into that province; that for many years, at every session of the Legislature of the Province of British Columbia, Acts were enacted prohibiting the immigration of Japanese, and were disallowed by the Dominion Government at the request and on the advice of His Majesty's Government; and, if so, will he state whether an Act passed at the last session of the British Columbia Legislature against Japanese immigration has been allowed and is now law.

* MR. LYTTELTON

I have nothing to add to the answer which I gave on the 15th instant to the Question put to me on this subject by the hon. Member for Dundee.†

MR. EDMUND ROBERTSON (Dundee)

asked if the Bill had now become law and was not to be disallowed.

Mr. LYTTELTON'S

answer was inaudible.
