To ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland whether he can state the number of police promoted, and to what rank, since the present Commissioner of Police in Belfast took charge; and how many were Roman Catholic and Protestant.

(Answered by Mr. Wyndham.) The following promotions to the ranks mentioned have been made since 1st December, 1901:—

Roman Catholic. Protestant.
District Inspector -- 1
Head Constable. 4 2
Sergeant 9 9
Acting Sergeant 22 17
Total 35 29
