HC Deb 04 February 1904 vol 129 c349
MR. WEIR (Ross and Cromarty)

I beg to ask the Secretary for Scotland if he will state when he proposes to deal with the recommendations contained in the Report on the Social Condition of the Island of Lewis.

* THE SECRETARY FOR SCOTLAND (Mr. A. GRAHAM MURRAY,) Buteshire

The Report to which the hon. Member refers contains many recommendations of value, to which I am giving careful consideration. I have consulted the several Boards through whom action must be taken, and I am in correspondence with the convener of the Committee. I should like to add that many of the more important recommendations cannot be accepted unless the Bill which I am about to introduce to amend the Congested Districts Act of 1897 should receive the sanction of Parliament.
