HC Deb 04 August 1904 vol 139 c985
MR. WEIR

I beg to ask the Secretary to the Board of Education whether he is aware that the Committee on Physical Deterioration, in their Report just issued, express the opinion that instruction in cookery, hygiene, and domestic economy should as far as possible be made compulsory on the elder girls at school; and will he consider the expediency of adopting this recommendation.

THE PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY TO THE BOARD OF EDUCATION (Sir WILLIAM ANSON,) Oxford University

The various recommendations of the Committee on Physical Deterioration will certainly receive the careful consideration of the Board. The question of instruction in cookery, hygiene, and domestic economy is one which has lately been especially investigated by the Board, and is now receiving their most careful attention.
