To ask the Under-Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he is aware that the strength of the Egyptian † See (4) Debates, cxxxv., 781. Army has recently been augmented by the appointment of British commissioned officers; and will he state the number of these appointments and why they have been made, having regard to the fact that after the pacification of the Soudan a reduction was made in the number of both native officers and rank and file. (Answered by Earl Percy.) We have no information of an increase in the strength of the Egyptian Army.
