HC Deb 20 April 1904 vol 133 cc673-4
MAJOR JAMESON (Clare, W.)

To ask the President of the Board of Trade whether the Admiralty have taken over control and appointed their own harbour master at Berehaven; and, if so, having regard to the fact that the Admiralty ships do not contribute to the general lighthouse fund, he will suggest to the Admiralty the desirability of their assuming control of and maintaining the lights, buoys, and beacons in that harbour at present maintained by that fund.

(Answered by Mr. Pretyman.) The Admiralty have taken over control of the harbour at Berehaven to the extent of exercising the powers conferred upon them by the Order in Council of the 26th September, 1901, within the limits of the dockyard port as therein defined. The chief officer of Coastguard at Castletown is acting King's Harbour Master. In all dockyard ports the Admiralty, like other local authorities, maintain the buoys, etc., that they consider necessary, and they are doing so at Berehaven. The only light in the neighbourhood is outside the limits of the dockyard port.
