HC Deb 28 May 1903 vol 123 c127
MR. JOHN CAMPBELL

I beg to ask the Postmaster-General whether he is aware that a junior officer has been withdrawn from Armagh Post Office for temporary duty in the Surveying Department without the posting up of the usual notice inviting applications from the district for the performance of the work; and, if so, will he explain why the ordinary course has been departed from in this instance.

MR. AUSTEN CHAMBERLAIN

Yes: the employment of the officer in question was duly authorised from headquarters. It was not necessary to post a notice inviting applications for this employment, as Mr. Boland was well known by the District Surveyor to be the most suitable candidate for the purpose.
