HC Deb 20 May 1903 vol 122 cc1217-8
MR. BOLAND (Kerry, S.)

I beg to ask the Secretary to the Treasury, whether provision will be made under the Public Offices (Dublin) Bill for allocating a portion of the site, now proposed to be acquired, for the purposes of a Gallery of Modern Art and the Royal Hibernian Academy.

THE FINANCIAL SECRETARY TO THE TREASURY (MR. ELLIOT,) Durham

No, Sir; the possibility of doing so has been considered; but the demands for accommodation on the proposed site are so great that it is impossible to allocate any part of it for the purpose of housing the Royal Hibernian Academy; and there are also financial objections to making a grant of site or of buildings to the Academy in addition to its present annual grant from Votes.
