HC Deb 19 May 1903 vol 122 c1085
MR. BAYLEY (Derbyshire, Chesterfield)

To ask the hon. Member for North Huntingdonshire, as representing the First Commissioner of Works, if he will state when the statue of James II. that was removed from the garden adjoining Gwydyr House, Whitehall, during the Coronation festivities of last year will be restored to its place.

(Answered by Mr. Ailwyn Fellowes.) The First Commissioner does not think that the garden adjoining Gwydyr House proved to be a suitable position for the statue of James II. He is considering whether a site can be found in the vicinity of the new Admiralty building in St. James's Park, or whether to replace the statue in its old position behind the Banqueting Hall in Whitehall Gardens. It is not proposed to re-erect it out of London.
