HC Deb 18 May 1903 vol 122 cc936-7
MR. WINSTON CHURCHILL (Oldham)

I beg to ask the First Lord of the Treasury whether his attention has been drawn to the Motion which stands on the Paper respecting the Committee of National Expenditure; and whether he will afford facilities for its discussion.

The Motion referred to is as follows—

National Expenditure, That, in view of the fact that no sitting of the National Expenditure Committee has yet been held this session, the Order of the House for the appointment of such Committee be rescinded.

MR. A. J. BALFOUR

I cannot understand the object of my hon. friend's Question, but I am informed that the Committee have completed taking evidence, and are about to consider their Report. It would seem an unusual and unfortunate course to stop their labours at so advanced a stage.

MR. WINSTON CHURCHILL

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that the Committee has not met during the present session.

MR. A. J. BALFOUR

I am not aware of anything more than I have told the House.

MR. WINSTON CHURCHILL

Perhaps the right hon. Gentleman will consider the desirability of giving them a gentle hint.
