MR. CATHCART WASONI beg to ask the Secretary of State for the Colonies if Ordinance XX. of 1887 is still on the Statute-book of the Fiji Legislature, under which Fijian chiefs have been imprisoned and deported without trial and without any opportunity of being heard in their own defence; and, if so, will he consider the expediency of disallowing the said ordinance.
§ MR. J. CHAMBERLAINThe Ordinance referred to is still in force. As at present advised I am of opinion that it is necessary to retain the power of deportation.
