HC Deb 04 March 1903 vol 118 c1356
MR. CLAUDE HAY

I beg to ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he can furnish information as to the legal proceedings taken by him against the London and North Western Railway in respect of their obligations to re-house persons of the labouring classes.

* MR. AKERS DOUGLAS

The proceedings which it was thought necessary to take against the London and North-Western Railway Company in order to obtain an authoritative settlement of the powers of the Secretary of State, which were disputed by the company, have involved considerable difficulties in arranging the preliminaries, and in the course of the negotiations the solicitor to the company died. I am now in active communication with the new solicitor, and matters are being pressed forward as rapidly as possible with a view to bringing the case to an early hearing.
