HC Deb 29 July 1903 vol 126 cc677-8
MR. LUNDON (Limerick, E.)

To ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland whether Civil servants in other Departments in England, Ireland, and Scotland will be eligible as candidates for positions in the Department about to be created in connection with the forthcoming Land Purchase Act; and to whom shall applications for such positions be addressed.

(Answered by Mr. Wyndham.) Section 23 (8) of the Land Bill provides for the nomination, in the first place, of existing members of the staff of the Land Commission to assist the Estates Commissioners in the performance of their duties. It is not practicable, at present, to estimate the extent of the new Department, or to state whether it will be necessary to appoint to it persons not already on the Land Commission staff. All nominations and appointments will be made by the Lord Lieutenant.
