§ CAPTAIN NORTON (Newington, W.)To ask the Secretary to the Treasury whether he will consider the advisability of granting some small pension to a Customs watcher, Charles Upton, who has recently retired from the service at the age of sixty-five and, after serving forty-one years, without pension from any source.
(Answered by Mr. Elliot.) The Treasury have no power under the Superannuation Acts to award a pension to Charles Upton, whose service was unestablished throughout. Upton received a gratuity on retirement of £47 13s. 2d., to which he was entitled under the Superannuation Act, 1887.
