§ MR. LOUGHI beg to ask the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether, seeing that under Article 11 of the Brussels Convention it is provided that no preference will be granted in the United Kingdom to colonial sugar as against sugar from the contracting States during the continuance of the Convention, and seeing that the value of the imports of sugar last year exceeded £20,000,000, whether the Government intend, in connection with their new fiscal inquiry, to take any steps that may enable them to modify this arrangement.
§ MR. J. CHAMBERLAINThe hon. Member will be aware that His Majesty's Government are bound by the obligations of the Brussels Sugar Convention for five years from the 1st of September next.
