WEIR (Ross and Cromarty)I beg to ask the Under Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs if he will state the increased area of land which has been brought into cultivation by means of the Assouan Dam; and whether it is proposed to make any alteration in the dam or reservoir such as will admit of a greater storage of water.
§ LORD CRANBORNEAs the Assouan Dam was only opened at the end of last year any attempt to obtain statistics as to the increased area of land under cultivation would at present be premature and none have yet been received. I understand that it is not proposed at present to make any alterations in the dam.
