§ MR. REMNANT (Finsbury, Holborn)I beg to ask the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether orders have recently been received by a Glasgow firm for locomotives for Canada; and, if so, whether these orders have been secured by this country on account of the Canadian preferential tariff.

CHAMBERLAIN,) Birmingham, W.I am aware that orders have been recently placed in Glasgow for locomotives for Canada and I am informed by the managing director of the company which obtained the order that they could not have secured it but for the operation of the preferential tariff.
