HC Deb 27 April 1903 vol 121 c462
MR. CHARLES ALLEN (Gloucestershire, Stroud)

I beg to ask the Secretary of State for War whether he can state how many tens of goods have been shipped this year by his Department to South Africa by steamers not belonging to the shipping ring as a result of representations received from the Board of Trade, and at what rate per ton.

THE SECRETARY TO THE ADMIRALTY (Mr. Arnold-Forster, Belfast, W.)

As the Admiralty has conducted the bulk of the transport work on behalf of the War Office, I have been asked by my right hon. friend to answer this Question. No goods have been shipped to South Africa by the Admiralty on behalf of the War Office or of the Navy during the current year by steamers not belonging to the Conference Lines.
