HC Deb 06 April 1903 vol 120 c1110
MR. FREDERICK WILSON

To ask the Secretary of State for War if, in view of the cost and difficulty of providing rifle ranges suitable for long-range practice, he will consider the feasibility of issuing with the new service ride supplementary half-charge ammunition, accurate up to 600 yards, so that closed ranges which are safe up to 600 yards may be reopened.

(Answered by Mr. Secretary Brodrick.) The cost and difficulty of providing rifle ranges suitable for long range practice have been to some extent overcome by the adoption of protected ranges where suitable ground is not available for open ranges. Short range ammunition, which was in use in 1895–7, was not found to be satisfactory. It is hoped that miniature ranges may to a large extent meet these difficulties.
