HC Deb 01 April 1903 vol 120 cc789-90
MR. BUCHANAN (Perthshire, E.)

I beg to ask the Lord Advocate whether the General Aid Grant in the Scottish Education Vote represents the half of the equivalent grant for Scotland due under the English Education Act; and, if so, for what purposes and under what conditions it is to be distributed; and in what way will the other half of the equivalent grant to Scotland be paid.

* THE LORD ADVOCATE (Mr. A. GRAHAM MURRAY,) Buteshire

The General Aid Grant in the Scottish Education Vote represents one half of the total additional grant to Scotland made in view of the additional grant to England under the Education Act of last session. It will supplement the Imperial contribution to educational expenditure. Its distribution will be settled by Minute which will be laid before Parliament as soon as certain inquiries as to the best methods of distribution have been completed. The distribution of the full Annual Grant, whether on the lines of that Minute or otherwise, will be matter of future consideration.
