I beg to ask the Secreatary of State for the Colonies whether the importation of indentured labour into the West Indies and British Guiana continues; and, if so, what number of labourers have been imported during each of the last five years.

The answer to the hon. Member's Question is that the importation of indentured labour into British Guiana, Trinidad and Jamaica continues. The number of indentured immigrants imported into the British West Indies and British Guiana in each of the last five years has been as follows: 1897, 3045; 1898, 3648; 1899, 6724; 1900, 7136; 1901, 7390.
