HC Deb 20 November 1902 vol 115 c16
MR. HARMSWORTH

I beg to ask the Secretary to the Admiralty if he will state for what purpose boarding pikes were recently issued to H. M. S. "Good Hope"; and if he can see his way to stop the issue of these weapons.

MR. ARNOLD-FORSTER

Boarding pikes are issued, not as weapons, but for use for miscellaneous purposes on board ship. As they are found to be useful, it is considered preferable to continue to issue those now in stock rather than to break them up or sell them. No fresh stock is being provided.

MR. GIBSON BOWLES (Lynn Regis)

Cannot they be used for gardening purposes?
