HC Deb 19 November 1902 vol 114 c1349
MR SKEWES-COX (Surrey, Kingston)

To ask the Secretary to the Treasury whether, seeing that in the Treasury, Colonial Office, Customs, Scotch Office, and Seamen's Registry. &c., Office certain assistant clerics (abstractor class) are in receipt of personal allowances or gratuities of £20 and £30 per annum, he will consider the advisability of extending this privilege to abstractors of meritorious service in other offices on the recommendation of the head of a Department.

(Answered by Mr. Hayes-Fisher.) The Treasury is always ready to consider a recommendation from the head of a Department for an improvement in the position of an abstractor who is employed on work of a class higher than could otherwise be fairly required of him.
