HC Deb 30 May 1902 vol 108 cc1013-4
MR. RICHARDS (Finsbury, E.)

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he is not satisfied with the verdict of the jury in the recent inquiry as to the cause of death by burning in Lever Street, St. Luke's, E.G., viz., it was owing to the use of inflammable Tea Rose oil, sold by the Standard Oil Company Trust of America, whether he will direct an official inquiry to be held by independent persons unconnected with the Home Office, so that the cause of these constantly recurring lamp accidents in this district of London may be independently traced to their source.

(Answer.) I am now considering whether it may not be possible to institute some inquiry with special reference to the facts of the recent cases of death by burning.
