I beg to ask the Secretary of State for War if he will state the total amount of indebtedness to Messrs. Houlder Brothers incurred by his Department during the South African War, together with particulars.

I will obtain the figure required, but I cannot give details of all the contracts.

Will the right hon. Gentleman kindly give me the total amount?

I beg to ask the Secretary to the Admiralty if he will state the total amount incurred by way of contract or otherwise and paid to Messrs. Houlder Brothers during the South African War by his Department for transport or other services. I only ask this Question in the interests of justice.

The total amount incurred is £482,932, of which £420,519 has been actually paid.
