HC Deb 13 March 1902 vol 104 c1286
MR. SHEEHAN

I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland whether he is aware that a young man named Daniel Creed, of Donaghmore, was arrested on Thursday evening last by Sergeant John Harrington, of Ballinagree, and charged with the larceny of a horse and cart; that the Sergeant swore at the Special Court held on the following day in Macroom that he had no warrant for the arrest of Creed; and will he state by what authority this police sergeant arrested this man on a criminal charge, and detained him in custody without a warrant.

MR. WYNDHAM

The police are empowered to make an arrest without warrant in a case of suspected felony. The case against Creed will be magisterially investigated today.
