HC Deb 04 March 1902 vol 104 c364
MR. REDDY (King's County, Birr)

I beg to ask the Secretary to the Treasury, as representing the Postmaster General, if he can state why one James Ferns, of Birr Urban District, in the King's County, and a rent warner to a landlord, was appointed to the position of postmaster in Riverstown, in the county of Tipperary, having regard to the fact that this man was living outside the village in a different county and province to that in which the vacancy occurred.

MR. AUSTEN CHAMBERLAIN

The appointment to the sub-office at Rivers-town has not been conferred upon Mr. James Ferns, but upon his wife, Mrs. Elizabeth Ferris. She was the only suitable candidate for the vacancy. † See page 187
