HC Deb 23 June 1902 vol 109 c1371
MR. HUMPHREYS-OWEN (Montgomeryshire)

To ask the First Lord of the Treasury whether, having regard to the fact that agitation is now going on in Cape Colony with a view to the continued suspension of the constitution of the Colony, the Government will use their influence with the civil and military authorities there to induce them to abrogate the restrictions imposed under Martial Law to the exercise of the right of free discussion in the Press and otherwise.

(Answer.) The Secretary of State for the Colonies and the Secretary of State for War are in communication with the civil and military authorities on the subject of the relaxation of the restrictions imposed under Martial Law.—(Treasury.)
