HC Deb 16 June 1902 vol 109 c691
MR. MASSEY-MAINWARING (Finsbury, Central)

To ask the Secretary of State for War if the Government has any official information as to the special metal called magnalium, of which swords for the Austrian cavalry are being made: and, if so, has the Government made any tests of it for military purposes.

(Answer.) Magnalium has been tried for scabbards, and also for small arm cartridges, but has not been found suitable. It would be quite unsuitable for sword blades, as it contains aluminium.—(War Office.)
