HC Deb 11 June 1902 vol 109 c352
SIR MANCHERJEE BHOWNAGGREE (Bethnal Green, N.E.)

To ask the President of the Board of Trade whether any provision is made to place before the Mercantile Marine Committee the question of the employment of Lascar crews in all its bearings; and, if any witnesses will be called by the Committee in order to have the views of the Lascars themselves being properly represented before that body.

(Answer.) I have been in communication with the Chairman of the Mercantile Marine Committee, who informs me that, in addition to making arrangements for the examination of witnesses already in this country with regard to the employment of Lascars on our ships, he has invited the attendance of Khan Bahadur D. R. Chichgar from Bombay, in order that the views of the Lascars themselves maybe adequately represented before the Committee.—(Board of Trade.)
