HC Deb 22 July 1902 vol 111 c898
SIR BRAMPTON GURDON (Norfolk, S.)

To ask the Vice President of the Committee of Council on Education, with reference to the suggestion addressed to School Boards that, in the event of their term of office expiring before the 26th March, 1903, an election may be avoided by omitting the nomination of candidates, so that the existing School Boards would remain in office, whether in such case School Boards will be required to pay full fees to the returning officers for an unopposed election.

(Answered by Sir John Gorst.) As the Board of Education must issue the election order, the returning officer will be entitled to his fees on unopposed election scale.
