HC Deb 03 July 1902 vol 110 cc686-7
MR. CATHCART WASON (Orkney and Shetland)

To ask the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he will obtain information from South Africa as to alleged dispositions of landed property in the late Republics by Boer burghers while in captivity, with the view of cancelling on fair terms transactions entered into under such circumstances.

(Answer.) If there are any cases in which a prisoner of war considers that his position has been taken advantage of to obtain a transfer of or a mortgage on his farm the matter will receive every consideration. But it is obvious that such cases can only be brought to light by the aggrieved party. It the hon. Member will furnish me with any specific instances of such transactions, or with any information which would lead to the disclosure of such cases, I will communicate with Lord Milner on the subject.—(Colonial Office.)
