§ CAPTAIN NORTON (Newington, W.)I beg to ask the Secretary of State for War if he can state the number of Yeomanry at Aldershot and the number of commissioned officers with that force prepared to proceed with them to South Africa; also, what inquiry, if any, has been made into the merits of these officers.
§ MR. BRODRICKThe numbers of Yeomanry at Aldershot are: Officers, 181; other ranks, 5,010. The military antecedents of these officers are known before they are granted commissions. The General Officer Commanding, 1st Army Corps, is responsible for seeing that all ranks of the corps are fully efficient before they are sent on service.
