HC Deb 11 February 1902 vol 102 cc998-9
MR. J. P. FARRELL

I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, whether he can state when it is proposed to hear the Maconochy Estate appeal cases in Longford; and if, before decisions are given, the Court will direct another inspector to value instead of the person now employed.

MR. WYNDHAM

The hearing of these appeals will be commenced on the 19th March. The selection of a Valuer by the Land Commissioners is a matter which falls entirely within their discretion, and the Government has no authority whatever to intervene.

MR. J. P. FARRELL

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that this is the case in which a bribe of half a year's rent was offered to the tenants to forego their rights?

* MR. SPEAKER

Order, order! That does not arise out of the Question.

MR. J. P. FARRELL

I will put a Question down on the subject.
