§ MR. PLATT-HIGGINS (Salford, N.)I beg to ask the President of the Local Government Board, whether he will state what steps the Local Government Board are taking to prevent the spread of smallpox by tramps.
§ MR. GRANT LAWSONMy right hon. friend has recently issued circular letters to Boards of Guardians, in which he called attention to the risk of smallpox being spread by means of casual paupers, and pointed out the steps which should by taken by the guardians and their officers, with a view to diminishing as far as possible the danger from this source.
§ MR. PLATT-HIGGINSWill care be taken that considerations of expense will not be allowed to stand in the way, especially so far as extra remuneration to the medical officers is concerned?
§ MR. GRANT LAWSONSuch considerations will not be allowed to stand in the way. We have not restricted the expenditure in any direction.
