HC Deb 16 December 1902 vol 116 c1332
MR. WEIR

To ask Mr. Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he will consider the desirability of allowing the rate of interest on savings bank deposits to continue at the present rate so long as Consols remain under par; and will the question of widening the area of investment for saving bank deposits be considered by the Government.

(Answered by Mr. Ritchie.) The hon. Member may be assured that every point bearing on the impending change in the income account of the savings bank funds will receive the fullest consideration before any proposal is made for the reduction of the rate of interest on deposits.
