§ MR. PIRIEI beg to ask the Under Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether any apology with reference to the arrest of an hon. Member of this House by the Belgian Authorities has passed through the Foreign Office; and, if not, will he take steps to point out to the Belgian Government the propriety of such action.
*LORD CRANBORNEHis Majesty's Minister at Brussels was informed by the Belgian Government that the hon. Member referred to did not at the time of the occurrence declare himself to be an English Member of Parliament. On doing so, ultimately, regret was at once expressed that he had not in the first instance indicated his position and thus spared himself inconvenience.
§ MR. KEIR HARDIEMay I say that the information supplied to the noble Lord is not correct, as I informed the authorities at the beginning that I was a Member of this House. No expression of regret was made to me at the time or has since been made in connexion with the arrest.
