HC Deb 21 April 1902 vol 106 c811
MR. TRITTON (Lambeth, Norwood)

I beg to ask the Secretary to the Treasury, as representing the Postmaster General, whether a regulation is in force forbidding an employee of the Post Office from acting as treasurer to a slate club; and, if so, whether he can see his way to rescind it.

MR. AUSTEN CHAMBERLAIN

Under the regulations of the Post Office no servant of the Department is allowed to undertake, either as agent or principal, a business connected with a Building, Provident, or Friendly Society which involves or admits of the receipt of money on deposit. The Postmaster General is not aware of any case in which this prohibition has been held to apply to the treasurership of a slate club; but if the hon. Member is aware of any such case, and will be good enough to furnish particulars, inquiry shall be made.
