HC Deb 07 April 1902 vol 105 cc1133-4
CAPTAIN NORTON (Newington, W.)

I beg to ask the Secretary to the Treasury, as representing the Postmaster General, whether he is aware that, as a result of the recent revision in the inland section of the London postal service, four duties which for the past twenty-six years have been performed by overseers are now to be performed by lobby officers; and whether, seeing the responsible nature of these tick duties, he will reconsider the matter with a view to retaining overseers on them.

THE FINANCIAL SECRETARY TO THE TREASURY (Mr. AUSTEN CHAMBERLAIN,) Worcestershire, E.

The Postmaster General is aware of the circumstances mentioned, but as the duties in question are such as can properly be performed by lobby officers, he is not prepared to depart from the decision arrived at. He has sanctioned a large addition to the number of overseerships.
