I beg to ask Mr. Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will state the rate or rates of interest at which Deficiency and Ways and Means Advances were repaid by the Treasury to the Bank of England or Ireland during the financial years ending 31st March, 1899, 1900, and 1901, respectively.

; The rates of interest paid to the Bank of England for Deficiency and Ways and Means Advances were as follows:—

Deficiency. Ways and Means.

1898–1899 1½ and 2 nil.
1899–1900 2¼ and 3 4
1900–1901 1½ and 2 2½ and 3½
The only advance by the Bank of Ireland was in 1900–1 for Ways and Means, and the rate of interest was 3½ per cent.
