HC Deb 13 May 1901 vol 93 c1469
MR. MURPHY (Kerry, E.)

I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland whether some Irish boards of guardians have made allowances to their officers for the preparation of the Census Returns; and, whether, seeing that considerable labour in necessary also in the preparation of these Returns by the heads of public schools and similar institutions in Ireland, he will give instructions to have reasonable compensation made to such persons for the performance of duties cast upon them in the preparation of these Returns.

MR. WYNDHAM

Any payments made by boards of guardians in respect to the preparation of these Returns would be provided from local rates. There is no authority for making allowances out of public funds to the persons mentioned in the second paragraph.
