HC Deb 13 May 1901 vol 93 c1468
MR. SAMUEL SMITH

I beg to ask Mr. Attorney General whether his attention has been drawn to the fact that an unauthorised lottery, organised at Middelburg, Holland, in the shape of a £5,000 Derby sweepstake, is being advertised in the Financial News and other newspapers; whether the Stoddart and Co. who are named in the advertisement as proprietors of the lottery are Joseph Stoddart, proprietor of the paper called Sporting Luck, who was recently convicted at the Mansion House under the Betting Act, and George Stoddart, his son; and, if so, what steps he proposes to take against the newspapers in question, and also to put a stop to the lottery referred to.

THE ATTORNEY GENERAL (Sir ROBERT FINLAY, Inverness Burghs)

Yes, Sir; attention has been drawn to this case, and it is under consideration.
