HC Deb 10 May 1901 vol 93 cc1329-30
MR. FLYNN

I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland whether the attention of the constabulary authorities has been called to the scenes of disorder which occurred at the Cork terminus of the Great Southern and Western Railway on Sunday last, owing to the misconduct of sailors and marines returning to Queenstown; and, in view of the possible repetition of similar scenes, whether the local police authorities will take the necessary steps to provide for the presence of a sufficient number of constables in uniform at the station named for the protection of peaceable travellers.

MR WYNDHAM

I am informed that six constables were present on the occasion, and that with the exception of one assault committed by a marine no further disturbance took place. The man assaulted ran away, and gave no assistance to the police in identifying his assailant.
