M'CRAE (Edinburgh, E.)I beg to ask Mr. Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he can state the amount of expenditure incurred on account of the war in South Africa to 31st March, 1901, exclusive of the charge for interest; and the total charge for interest on loans and other borrowings for war expenditure in South Africa to 31st March, 1901; and whether he can state the respective amounts of war expenditure in South Africa redeemed to 31st March, 1901, from the following sources, namely, from taxation apart from realised surpluses; from realised surpluses; and from suspension of the Sinking Fund.
