§ MR. J. P. FARRELLI beg to ask the Secretary of State for War if he will state on what grounds the Captain Station Paymaster of the 34th Regiment refused to pay a balance of £2 3s. 2d., 411 due to the guardians of Longford Union for the maintenance in that institution of James Kearney, late of the 34th Regiment; whether the fact of a life certificate not being sent in could invalidate the claim; and why a further payment cannot be made in respect of the sum claimed, seeing that Kearney has now become an inmate of Chelsea Hospital.
LORD STANLEYThe delay appears to have arisen through a misunderstanding. Instructions have now been given for the payment of the sum claimed.
